Advanced Virtualization with Microsoft Hyper-V - Level 2

Overview

This Level 2 training covers the design of a multi-host Hyper-V architecture suited to an SME or a mid-sized company. It addresses needs analysis, high availability and the organisation of a platform capable of hosting critical virtual machines.
Participants create a Hyper-V failover cluster, add hosts and configure shared storage with CSV. They also implement Hyper-V Replica, live migration and failover scenarios between a primary site and a secondary site.
The final workshop brings together replication, backup, monitoring and documentation for a complete mini-system. The equipment mentioned includes HP DL380 servers, iSCSI or NFS shared storage, a network infrastructure separating management, storage and production, as well as administration workstations.

Objectives

• Design a multi-host Hyper-V architecture suited to an SME or a mid-sized company.
• Set up a Hyper-V failover cluster for critical virtual machines.
• Use suitable shared storage with CSV or SMB 3.0 shares.
• Configure and operate Hyper-V Replica to a secondary site.
• Manage live migrations and planned shutdowns.
• Implement a backup strategy covering the VMs, the cluster and replication.
• Apply security, monitoring and documentation best practices for an advanced Hyper-V platform.
